Today I wanted to share with you, a new way to dress that I recently discovered - a concept curated by Stylist team Emily Current & Meritt Elliott - @emilymeritt, mixing up high & low elements from your wardrobe to create new looks. Embracing this mix & match approach to outfit building has allowed me to look at my wardrobe with a fresh set of eyes and find some unexpected new combinations, especially as I have a couple of pieces that I never know how to style and this philosophy has given me a few to try out. Currently teaming a Primark pink/silver shimmer pleated midi skirt, ASOS plain white tee with dobby sleeves and my faithful converse - mixing a "high" skirt with "low" tee and trainers, easy but cute and very my style.
Here is the basic framework to get you started, along with a few street style shots for inspiration. Give it a go, try a new combination and create a new look.....

I think all women own pieces from the low element list (I've never met a woman who doesn't own at least 1 pair of jeans and a white tee), classic everyday staple pieces, whilst the high element list is your special, seasonal or statement items, something you can have a bit of fun with - introducing bold colours and beautiful prints.
I really enjoy how this framework helps to mix up pieces, styles and genres - like trainers with dresses, something i would never have tried before but actually this combo has become a firm favourite. I love that using this fashion "formula" I can wear my fanciest dress during the day, teamed with trainers and a utility jacket and not look overdressed or out of place running errands - it seems to find a natural balance when mixing in low elements and looks effortless.

A floral dress {HIGH} with white converse {LOW}
Statement midi skirt {HIGH} with a basic tee / simple knit {LOW}
Skinny jeans {LOW} with a floaty boho blouse and statement accessories {HIGH}
A feminine lace cami {HIGH} layered over a classic white tee with boyfriend jeans {LOW}
Do you like to mix high & low to create your looks?
Would love to hear your favourite combinations, so leave a comment.
