Wardrobe storage solutions

The key to an organised wardrobe is storage. Whether you have a small wardrobe or are blessed with a walk in, with the right solutions you can make any space work for you. Having your pieces visible and easy to access will make building outfits quick & easy. If you cant see it, you may forget you have it.

While none of these solutions are going to be revolutionary, they are essentials that I swear by and that have helped me organise my own wardrobe.

  • First up, is finding the right hangers for your space.

Let's be honest, while we all dream of a having a walk in wardrobe like Carrie Bradshaw the reality for most ( myself included) is a standard fitted wardrobe - so making a small space work hard is essential. I find having hangers that match helps to give me more space. My OCD brain also loves it aesthetically but practically it really helps.

I haven't spent loads, just Amazon basics - I opted for the slim line, velvety covered styled.

  • Clear stacking boxes

I utilise these for my basics - vests/t-shirts, accessories such as belts & scarves and my special shoes. The key here is clear boxes, so you can easily see what is inside each one. I particularly like this set up as I can make the most of the height on my wardrobe shelf. Most of the ones I have are from B&M - they do a great range of storage options at very reasonable prices...one tip I would give is to work out what you need before you shop (also check the size of your space, not so helpful if they wont fit!)

  • Stackers jewellery boxes

Storing my jewellery properly was a lockdown challenge for me - I have lost so many pieces to tarnishing or tangling. I have found the best way to organise my jewellery is the Stackers jewellery box. While this is a little bit of a spenny purchase, Stackers allows you to fully customise your jewellery box, choosing the compartments that work for the pieces you own. I especially love the trinket trays that I now store my earrings & necklaces in, each in its own little compartment. Of course any jewellery box will do - Oliver Bonas also do some really beautiful styles. The key for this is to get one that works for your collection. Stackers Store

  • Sticky hooks

I like to use every available inch of my wardrobe, so I have sticky hooks stuck on the inside of my wardrobe doors for bags/belts to hang on. I also have 3 on my wall to store my fedora/straw hats. Simple but very useful.

The best ones I have found are command hooks.

  • Freestanding rail

This solution is something that is space dependant... I use a basic IKEA rail for my outfit planning, also to store any overspill items from my actual wardrobe. It is sometimes helpful to be able to see your weeks outfits, also very helpful when planning holiday packing. The IKEA Mulig clothes rail is also a bargain at only £7!

  • Baskets

Another very simple solution - baskets are ideal for storing pjs, workout gear or random bits that have no home. Decorative but practical - again B&M have some really good options, I have the nicest raffia scallop edge basket with my workout gear in. Something to not spend lots on but a great addition to sit in the bottom of you wardrobe or in a corner of the room. They also make a fancier washing basket too.

  • Sunglasses rack

This is an additional solution, but if you do own a lot of sunglasses, it is a great option. I need to invest in some kind of storage for my ever increasing selection of sunnies. I am currently looking at 2 options - either an acrylic shelf set up, inside the door of my wardrobe or simple wood rack from Etsy.

Hopefully your have found this post helpful - small changes to your storage solutions will make all the difference to your wardrobe. If you have any solutions that you think I would like, please share them.

Happy Organising
